Application
Electronics assembly
Ten pulsed axes, a barcode scanner on the USB host port, and Modbus TCP to the MES.
The machine
Loaders, dispensers and test fixtures
Electronics assembly machines are small, fast and numerous. A board loader, a dispenser, a screw robot, a test fixture — each has a handful of axes, a scanner and a requirement to report to the line's MES.
The machines are built in volume, so the control cost matters per unit, and the footprint matters on a line " "that is already full. Ten axes in a 216 mm wide controller is a different proposition from a rack.
The control
What has to happen, and fast enough
The FGm-64MT-AC provides ten 200 kHz pulse channels with real-time speed and position adjustment, interpolation, CAD import and electronic cam, plus 12 single-phase and 6 AB-phase counting channels. Thirty-two inputs and thirty-two NPN transistor outputs are on the main unit, and eight FGs expansion modules " "add analogue or temperature where the fixture needs them.
A USB barcode scanner connects to the panel's host port and the result goes to the MES over Modbus TCP — no " "industrial PC in the cabinet.
Recommended hardware
A typical bill of materials for this machine
These are the models the export desk quotes most often for this application — not the only valid combination.
| Function | Recommended | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Operator panel | SK-070QS | 7-inch, USB host for the scanner, Ethernet to the MES |
| Controller | FGm-64MT-AC | Ten 200 kHz pulse axes, 32 DI / 32 DO, interpolation |
| Axes | R8-2204P-N + HK-40 flange | 400 W, compact 40 mm flange, high acceleration |
| I/O expansion | S-E4AI2AO | Analogue for force or dispense pressure |
I/O counts and axis counts assume a mid-range machine. Send the actual list and the quotation will be sized against it.
Engineering notes
What usually goes wrong
- Ten axes is the pulse ceiling on FGm; a twelve-axis fixture moves to PRO/MAX over EtherCAT.
- Put the scanner on the panel's USB host port rather than a separate PC — it removes a computer from every machine.
- Modbus TCP to the MES is enough for most lines; check whether the customer's MES expects a specific register map before quoting.
- For test fixtures, the panel's recipe groups double as test-program selectors.
Send the machine, not the model
Describe the axes, the I/O and the market it ships to. We answer with a model code, a cut-out check and a landed-cost quote — usually within one business day.
Next step
Tell us what the machine has to do.
Send the axis count, the I/O list or a photo of the existing panel. You get a model recommendation, a wiring note and a quote — usually within one business day.
